Telehealth uses various forms of technology in order to provide healthcare services remotely. Services can include virtual appointments, remote monitoring, and collaboration between numerous physicians and specialties.
Telehealth enables patients and providers to communicate when meeting in person is not an easy or viable option. This way of communicating is especially beneficial when the patient lives in a rural community or has limited mobility and transportation options.
Why is Telehealth More Important Now?
Telehealth became extremely important with the outbreak of the Coronavirus across the nation.
Proper Connections and Independent Connections (IndyConn) have put forth numerous efforts to help their healthcare customers serve their patients in the best way possible during this difficult time.
What have Proper Connections and IndyConn Done to Help Their Healthcare Customers During the Coronavirus Outbreak?
In early March of 2020, Proper Connections assisted with augmenting the telephone nurse triage line with telemedicine services. In the middle of April, they began adding Behavioral Health telemedicine services to the triage line.
In addition, Proper Connections has set up over 240 licensed providers and over 260 additional non-licensed users in a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform in order to schedule, assist with, participate in, and host telemedicine visits. These providers cover a variety of specialties including:
- Behavioral Health
- Diabetes Education
- Nutrition
- Outpatient Rehab
- Primary Care Offices
- Renal/Dialysis
- Surgery
- Wellness
- Wound Care
- and many other specialists
To further help healthcare practices, IndyConn has been setting up and rolling out iPads to use for telemedicine services when users’ existing devices will not suffice or if they need them for patients. These iPads have also been used to help patients who are in isolation due to COVID-19 communicate with their families.
What is IndyConnect?
IndyConn has been in the process of rolling out a FREE community-wide initiative called IndyConnect, to assist practices that have been set up with telemedicine capabilities but have patients who are struggling with the technology. IndyConn has been working one-on-one with patients to help them become familiar with the technology and train them on how to use it most effectively. This includes Apple devices, PCs, tablets, and smartphones.
Together Ahead with Technology
Proper Connections and IndyConn will continue to create solutions to the technology challenges posed by the pandemic, so our customers can provide their clients and patients with the best service and care possible.
